Best of the Year from Stuart James Wedding Photographer Staffordshire
A year that saw a change in camera systems, and the first time we kept completely ahead of deadlines, 2017 was a fantastic year from start to end.
I got to share in the weddings of 27 couples, along with editing the same from Barry James Photography. Getting to capture the weddings of old friends, and new friends, around locations familiar and new. Saying goodbye to one of my favourite and most popular wedding venues, and building relationships with new and exciting ones…it really was a journey…and I loved every second!!
I’m breaking the narrative of the year into two blog posts, the first here taking us through to the middle of the year, with the rest to follow shortly… It’s a mammoth post, but so much fun!
So, without further ado, I present to you, just some of my favourites from 2017…
Helen + Steve’s Wedding at Wesley Methodist Church and The Lyttleton Arms
I couldn’t have wished for a nicer way to start my year, being invited to capture the wedding of two old friends.
I’ve known both Helen and Steve for years, having played alongside them in the Brass Band world. And whilst I’ve not played for years, getting a call out of the blue from Helen was fantastic!
Really could not have been happier for them, and indeed happier to capture their beautiful little story.
Kat + Marc’s February Wedding at Pendrell Hall
Any trip to Pendrell Hall is fabulous, and getting my full-length coverages off to a start with Kat + Marc‘s wedding was perfect!
Blessed with kind weather, we were able to make the most of the wonderful setting, whilst also enjoying the amazing entertainment from The Ashmore Brothers!
Crissi + Roger’s Wedding at St Matthews Church Walsall and Packington Moor
The first of three visits to the stunning Packington Moor came with Crissi and Roger‘s wedding.
With their story starting from the bridal preparations – after the bacon sandwich was finished! – through into the night, it truly was a great day. Their little boy was such a character to photograph!
Hannah + Will’s Scorching Hot Wedding at The Moat House
On what was one of the hottest days of the year, I was at The Moat House capturing the wedding of Hannah + Will.
A day that was almost too good with the weather, especially for our guys! Tweed was not the best of choices!! :-)
But what a fabulous day! A really chilled out and fun day from start to end, I just loved every second!
Rebecca + Pete’s Erasmus Darwin House Wedding
I had previously been to Erasmus Darwin House a few years ago, and it really was fabulous to be back for Rebecca + Pete’s wedding.
My day started capturing the preparations of the girls at Netherstowe House, before capturing the rest of the wedding story at Erasmus in Lichfield.
With the June weather well and truly on our side, it could not have been more perfect!
Vicki + Ben’s June Moat House Wedding
The end of June saw me back at the wonderful Moat House for the wedding of Vicki and Ben.
A truly relaxed day from start to end, with so many personal touches throughout, and so much emotion on display.
I’m so glad I got to head to The Manor Hospital with Vicki + Ben to see Ben’s grandad who had been rushed in the day before…and even better to hear he was completely on the mend only a few days later!
Emma + Mark’s July Wedding at Weston Park
Emma + Mark‘s wedding was my only visit to Weston Park in 2017, but what a stunner it was!
From the morning preparations with Rachel Savine, capturing the preparations of the wedding party, including the cutest kids, the day was a dream.
It was tremendous to be working alongside my good friend Zeus Films who produced this amazing video of Emma + Mark’s day:
Lottie + Dean’s Beautiful Summer Wedding at Nuthurst Grange
I got to meet Lottie + Dean at Nicola + Mitch’s wedding in 2016. This time around, it was Dean as Groom and Mitch as Best Man, but just as emotional!
Capturing the wedding story for a shortened amount of time, following the 14-hour marathon capturing Emma + Mark’s day was a little strange, but stunning all the same. Lottie + Dean really are a beautiful couple, and I loved my time with them. Getting to see Nicola + Mitch was a real highlight too – their little lad is such a dude! Nuthurst Grange is a truly stunning venue and one I cannot wait to be back at.
Jenna + Glenn’s Wedding at St Paul’s Coven + Packington Moor
Jenna + Glenn‘s wedding was a little different, with it being the first of two two-photographer coverages with my father Barry James.
It was after we had both met the couple at The Moat House that they decided on our two styles combined.
Whilst my day started with Jenna and the girls, my father was with the boys…including a trip to the pub!
From the church, it was back to the stunning Packington Moor…oh how I’m going to miss that place!
Emi + Chris’ Wedding at Wrens Cathedral and Wroxall Abbey
I had previously enjoyed working at Wroxall Abbey a couple of years ago and couldn’t wait to be back.
For Emi + Chris‘ day, we got to make the most of the whole setting. From the preparations in the house to the ceremony in Wrens Cathedral, to the most epic party in the marquee. Oh and that cake from Hayley at The Bake Pod…just wow!
Emi + Chris are such a beautiful couple, and their summer wedding was a true highlight of the early summer!
Kate + Tim’s Acton Trussell Wedding at St James’ Church + The Moat House
I remember when I first met with Kate + Tim we talked at length about their plans, realising just how important the full story of their day was.
When we headed to Lichfield for their engagement session, however, it took a while to get them comfortable. But HOW STUNNING did they look?!
Come the day of the wedding it really was a blast from start to end. From the beautiful preparations of the girls with Sasha Thomas and Francesco Group, and of course the gorgeous Marnie stealing the show!
The ceremony for Kate + Tim was at the church in Acton Trussell, before returning to the Moat House for the rest of the day.
Truly loved this one from start to end…
Zoe + Rob’s Wedding at All Saints Church Bloxwich + The Moat House
It’s pretty clear The Moat House was a very popular venue for us in 2017!
Zoe + Rob‘s wedding brought my July to a close in such wonderful fashion! As soon as I first met with them, I felt so at ease and just knew it was going to be a great day to be part of! My coverage for Zoe + Rob started nice and early with the morning preparations. With the lovely Kelly Louise on makeup duties from 0530, the ladies all looked stunning! And it has to be said, with the great troosers and the jackets from Duncan James Menswear the boys looked very sharp indeed!
I couldn’t have wished for a more amazing wedding to complete the start of my summer!
Grace + Jake’s Wedding at The Fairlawns, Aldridge
I wanted to squeeze this one into the first post of 2017…
I met Grace + Jake through Grace’s sister whose wedding I captured at Hawkesyard Estate a couple of years ago.
With the day planned for a midweek wedding, it was always going to be relaxed and truly special for the couple.
However, the day took a very emotional feel, with Grace’s mother becoming very ill on the lead up to the wedding. It really brought home to me how important family are, and also how important photos are too.
The spirit of the family was there for everyone to see, and I felt so honoured to capture their story… Here are just a couple of Grace + Jake’s wedding.
And that’s it…the first lookback at 2017 is done!
What a corker!!
Just loved the places that the year took me, and the stories I got invited to capture…and we’re only half-way there!
More to come…
