Wrens Cathedral Wedding by Warwickshire Documentary Wedding Photographers
It’s not every wedding that you get the joining of two diverse cultures, but with Emi + Chris’ wedding bringing together Emi’s Japanese family and friends with Chris’ English background, it was a truly wonderful union. Add in a fabulous smattering of friends from around the globe, and well, you have the recipe for a truly special day!
From when I first had a Skype meeting with Emi + Chris many months ago when they were planning their Wroxall Abbey wedding, I knew the day was going to be pretty memorable!
Emi + Chris met courtesy of their work for Toyota, with Chris being the designated man for trips to the continent, their paths crossed and after spending a wonderful New Year together…after only just making his plane (problems with a Mazda RX8!) the rest truly was history.
I got to spend a little time with Emi + Chris a few weeks ago at the stunning Calke Abbey so we were definitely far from strangers on the day of the wedding, and we fell into a truly relaxed atmosphere from the very start. I have to say Emi + Chris’ friends and family were some of the most welcoming and fun to be around all day…and boy, they knew how to party. More about that later…
Emi + Chris’ wedding at Wrens Cathedral and Wroxall Abbey was actually a wedding blessing, with the couple having contracted their marriage a few months ago back in Japan, however, today was THE big celebration!
Wroxall Abbey with Wren’s Cathedral is such a stunning setting, and with the styling and touches from Emi + Chris, the day was truly spectacular…
I loved the stationery for Emi + Chris’ day, with the travel theme carried off to perfection…
From the passports as invitations, the boarding passes as RSVPs, and the travel brochure including the map of the world as the schedule for the day, they really did think of everything!
The makeup and hair styling from Jo Maria, whose work you can find at jomariamua on Instagram and on her website, was truly perfect for Emi and the girls, and so natural!
Having Wren’s Cathedral just outside the door of Wroxall Abbey offers such a stunning setting for the wedding ceremony, and with flowers from Sharon at Flair with Flowers, the setting was truly perfect…
The travel theme carried through beautifully to the custom cufflinks Chris had made especially for the day, with a map of where they both grew up on each…
Leaving the boys to their G&Ts, I headed back to the girls, just in time to catch Emi’s reaction to opening her present from Chris…
Emi’s dress with the pearl jacket from Barton Bridal Outlet truly was perfect!
One very proud father…
One of my favourite periods of the day to document, from the first look of the Father of the Bride, to the journey to the waiting groom…so much emotion, so many stories to tell…
There were so many lovely touches to the ceremony at Wren’s Cathedral with the Reverend Chris Beard leading a beautiful ceremony for Emi + Chris.
From the lighting of the unity candle, it was time for the recession of Mr & Mrs Powls to the cheers and hollers of their friends and family!
Coming out of the church it was soon apparent how lucky we were with the weather, missing a rain shower whilst we were safely inside…and thankfully, with lady luck on our side, we escaped any further rain too!
With the weather kindly on our side, the guests along with the bride and groom were able to relax on the terrace overlooking the perfect setting of Wroxall, enjoying the drinks reception.
Anticipating the impending arrival of a little summer rain, I stole the couple away from their guests to head around the grounds along with Lee from Iconic Image – a videographer I can thoroughly recommend!
The grounds at Wroxall are absolutely stunning and full of character…and with a couple as fabulous as Emi + Chris, it’s impossible not to have a good time!
The ruins at Wroxall are an absolute gem for photography, and after first discovering them with Kelly + Johnt a couple of years ago, I couldn’t wait to use the same stunning setting for Emi + Chris.
It was quite remarkable how quickly the weather changed as we were capturing the shots around the ruins, soon needing to make a speedy transition back indoors to avoid the rain…that unfortunately stayed with us for the rest of the day…
The attention to detail in the styling of the wedding breakfast room was truly ‘spot-on’, complimented perfectly by the wonderful hand-painted cake from Hayley at The Bake Pod – I do LOVE her cakes!
From the receiving line, it was soon time for the entrance of the bride and groom, Mr & Mrs Powls…to yes, more whooping and hollering!!
Following the wedding breakfast, it was time for the speeches, always a highlight to document. The Father of the Bride’s speech led off proceedings perfectly…
From the Father of the Bride, it was to the man-of-the-day, Chris for his speech.
Finally…the speech everyone was waiting for, the Best Man!
Bringing the formal proceedings to a close, it was soon into the marquee for the evening reception…and the party of all parties!
The band Emi + Chris chose, the Kings of the Dance Floor, were just fabulous! Hitting the right mood from the start of the night until the end, they helped make the party truly fantastic!
When the inflatables come out, you know things are getting serious…
I have to say, the dancefloor was rocking all night long. Emi + Chris’ friends and family truly ‘brought it!’ that night. Just awesome!!
It was only right to conclude Emi + Chris’ with a few signature night time portraits…something I love to capture in the rain!
Emi + Chris, can I just say what a true pleasure and honour it was to share your day with your family and friends and capture your story for you. From start to end, your day was truly perfect – even the weather could not have been better timed!
A truly special, unique and wonderful day to be part of…I cannot wait to present your finished story to you!
