Wet Weather Weddings
What happens when it rains on your wedding day?
Seasons and the British Weather
With the huge fluctuations in weather we’ve been enjoying over the past few weeks, it’s brought back to my mind the effect the season can have on your wedding, and possibly how you should plan to make the most of whatever Mother Nature gives you!
There are so many different wedding venues that offer different features for the time of year, from the outdoor ceremonies available from Moddershall Oaks and Warwick House, to the fabulous outdoor space for your guests to enjoy at Weston Hall and The Moat House, but it’s often thinking about venues that offer an alternative that makes the difference to your wedding day!
Top Tip – Expecting the rain? Hire umbrellas!! We did, and whilst we didn’t need them for the wedding day, we did for the party the day after! #BePrepared! #TipTuesday!!
Back when me and my wife Beki were planning our wedding for 2015 we actually planned for the weather to be at it’s worst – we were getting married in the Lake District!
Hiring umbrellas for the guests to use, and deciding to not let it bother us was key!
We were lucky, with the torrential downpour actually coming on the morning of our day, and never returned. As it so often the case in the UK…the rain rarely stays all day!
Attitude is Everything! Embrace what the day gives you, it is still YOUR special day! Have fun with it!!
I always think, if you don’t let the weather affect your attitude, you can actually make it work in your favour. With large white umbrellas to keep you dry, we can get really creative with lighting outdoors, especially on the nighttime, and of course, snow looks stunning on photographs! It’s just your guests getting there that can be tricky!!
Venues with a gorgeous interior – you’re sorted!! Whatever the weather or season!!
At times however it’s not about embracing the weather, with the need to be creative and utilise a venue differently…and this is where your choice of venue can be so important!
Venues with fabulous indoor space really are of huge value, and whilst a tipi wedding surrounded by hay bales in the summer is something special, throw in the wonderful British weather and things can change quickly…
Summer Weddings = Marquee / Tipi in a Field! Amazing!
Choosing Right for a Winter Wedding
#TopTip – Choose a venue you love on the inside…it may be where you spend all your day!
I’ve always looked at having winter weddings at venues with a great indoor space as being so important. Whether the fabulous choices abound with Weston Park, or the character and space inside Sandon Hall, even on the worst of days, I know the story will not be affected.
Sometimes it can be as simple as making the most of a gap in the weather that makes the difference to the wedding story, and I always work checking the weather on changeable days, swapping and changing plans around to make the best of the day for my couples! And working quickly can often be a huge bonus!!
On the opposite side of the scale, there can be the problem of the day being too warm too…
The number of times I’ve seen red shoulders after a drinks reception in the sun…remember the suntan cream ladies!!
And gents…do think about the style of suit you have too! Back in May last year I was at the Moat House for Hannah + Will’s wedding…a day that was literally too stunning for weather. Especially for the boys in tweed!!
Planning for the worst and embracing the best can often make the difference to your day. Don’t let the weather get you down, we’ll have a great day and make the most of it!!
