I’ve known Kerry and the team from Sorella Decor for years from our work together at The Moat House, and when I was bringing these interviews along I knew I had to sit down with her!

From humble beginnings of supplying chair covers seven years ago, Sorella events grew organically by providing to couples demands:

“People were asking us about centrepieces and swags for tables, and aisle runners, all sorts of other things, and it just naturally grows and I loved it.  It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s nice to be a part of somebody’s big special day.”

I think that is key, and from all of these Supplier Interviews, seeing that everyone just LOVES this industry is so warming to see.

When you are bringing together the styling for your wedding day, knowing where to go for different things is a question, so I was interested to discover what Sorella Decor can provide:

“They can get everything! All the venue styling, but also all of their fresh flowers, and floral arrangements for tables. We can dress the church; we can do all of the centrepieces, bridal bouquets, buttonholes, all the styling that you’re looking. Whether it be candelabras, vases, everything. We also hire post boxes. And what we provide is always growing –  people always asking us for something different, and it’s like, ‘oh right, yeah, we can we can do that! Let’s get that in!’
At Sorella, we’re always thinking what’s on trend at the moment? What’s coming in? Whether its vintage or rustic styles,  we just keep adding to the stock constantly.”

Knowing that a company is bang-on-trend is fabulous – after all, you want your wedding to be perfect and to your ideas. And if those ideas have come from recently featured weddings in magazines or on blogs, it’s great knowing the team at Sorella can create the modern look for you!

I always thought with stylists it would be all or nothing – you choose one company, and they bring everything together!

However, as I found out on the two weddings I captured Kerry, Rachel and Margaret dressing at Weston Hall and The Moat House, you can talk to suppliers about different things, and let them bring it all together for you!

“We’re very happy to work with people. If they’ve got a friend who is a florist, but they just work in a normal flower shop and want to do the bouquets. That sort of thing. We’re more than happy to work with every bride and couple individually and fill in the gaps they might need us to fill in. Whether that even be providing martini glasses for the flower arrangements, they can just hire them off us! Very often they’ll say to us, ‘you know, can you just set it up in the room? My mom is going to be getting ready that morning; she’s not going to have time?’ That’s fine, not a problem!”

Knowing you have someone who will work with you is just fabulous!

When Should You Book Your Wedding Stylist

I often think when planning your wedding suppliers, with the difference in information out there from one source to another, it really must feel a bit confusing, so I put the question to Kerry:

“Well we can only do so many weddings on an actual day, so if they want to use a company like ourselves, they do need to get us booked, and I know we say this all the time, but about 12-18 months in advance is ideal! We are taking bookings the main especially for Saturday’s in August and June, July but it’s all year round – we’re in February, and we’ve done two weddings today!”

So the biggest advice there – book early to avoid disappointment!!

Although I get to photograph the creates styled by Sorella and other venue stylists throughout the year, I know very little about the process, so I thought it would be interesting to discover more of the journey a Sorella Bride and Groom go on!

“People come to the studio. We sit down, and usually, they haven’t got much of an idea of what they want to do, and they come to us and sort of say, ‘Well how do you think this is going to look? Do you think this is going to work there?’, And I’ll advise them. And it’s usually quite good fun.

We can sit down, and they’ll bring their Pinterest board with them on their iPad, and it’s like this is my mood board, this is what I’m thinking, and from that, we’ll pick out the essential elements. What is it that connects? Whether it’s the flowers, do they like they’re like roses? Do they like hydrangeas? What is it that they like? Are they going for that rustic look?

That’s when we design around their ideas – whether they’ve initially got a distinct idea of their styling, or indeed needing our guidance.”

I think this must be fascinating – both for Sorella and for your guys, the Bride and Grooms!

Afterall, creating something extraordinary and unique is what it’s about!!

Guiding couples to the right styling for their venue is also crucial, as specific venues require a different approach – or indeed, some require less decoration to look amazing!

“The first question I ask: which venue is it? Obviously, we do know most of the venues, so I’ve got a good idea of what works well and maybe areas of that venue that do need dressing, areas that you can leave that alone, that are pretty enough.”

This local knowledge of Staffordshire Wedding Venues is fabulous and must instil such confidence when you talk to Kerry!

Bringing different approached to different venues also comes with the chairs too – after all, with the difference from solidly backed chairs, to the gorgeous Chiavari chairs offered at other venues, a difference in stylist is needed.

Understanding the styling themes that work with different venues is also important:

“Don’t fight the style that the venues already in! Use what you’ve already got, and and it will work well, then and people will walk in and go, ‘wow, that looks fabulous !’ All you’ve done is enhance the room!”

How Much Does Wedding Decor Cost?

“When you’ve got Pinterest and Google images that brides bring in, and say ‘I want that!’, It’s up to us to say, ‘do you realise that that is hundreds of pounds worth of flowers per table, and you’ve got ten tables? Are we going to be in that price range?’ If the answer’s no, that’s fine. Instead what elements of that design they love?”

I think this is huge – after all, we can all easily fall in love with something we see online, but it’s important to evaluate, tweak and adjust our ideas to fit our days perfectly. So whether it’s the bouquets you love or the colours; talk to Kerry and the team at Sorella, and let them bring your ideas to life, within your budget!

A top tip from Kerry also came down to the table centrepieces. In fact, she brought us two great suggestions:

  1. You don’t need to have extensive designs on each table! If you have ten tables, mix-and-match across your room, with some tables high arrangements, others low-level arrangements. The variety adds interest and flow to the room and looks fabulous!
  2. Re-use the arrangements around different parts of your wedding!! This can be a GREAT money-saver too. If you’re getting married in the same setting, it can be possible to re-use centrepieces on pedestals for the ceremony, then on the tables for the wedding breakfast!

Bringing Your Colours To Your Wedding Venue Styling

“If you’ve got a tall ceiling. I always say this, ‘try to take the colour up into the centrepieces.'”

Also with tall centrepieces, they’re great for “cross conversation on the tables” – keep your centre-pieces either high or low – you want your guests to talk comfortably across the tables!

The Perfect Styling for Your Wedding While Considering the Budget!

I’ve long said the best thing all couples can do when talking to suppliers is be completely honest – there is often something we can do, or advise on, to make your day truly perfect.

“If they’re open and honest we can normally guide couples because there’s normally something we can do, but without compromising on the quality. Obviously, that’s always got to be there.”

Top Wedding Planning Tips from Sorella Events

Throughout these interviews with Staffordshire Wedding Suppliers, I’m bringing together the collective knowledge we all have from the wedding industry, to help make your wedding planning easy and stressfree!

Kerry indeed wasn’t short of great tips and advice throughout the interview:

“When you are thinking about styling, think about what your venue? What does your venue lend itself to already, and build from there? Think about the season that you’re in if it’s a lovely summer wedding, then yes, all the pastels work really well, but maybe if it’s a winter wedding, think of warmer colours.”

“Get in there early with your suppliers. Get your key people booked. Get in with people if you want to use them, and you then be open to ideas and suggestions!”

“Think about the seasons and the flowers that are going to be available. We can normally get everything, but let us guide and advise you.”
