Wedding Planning Tips from Char + Danny
Staffordshire Barn Wedding in Lichfield
I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Char + Danny’s wedding at Packington Moor Barn in Lichfield, Staffordshire last September.
A couple of weeks ago I got to present their finished (and simply stunning!) wedding album to them!
Which I think went down rather well :)
Their wedding was an absolute blast to capture, and I’m really glad I got to photograph such an amazing wedding as my last at Packington Moor. Such a stunning and much loved Staffordshire wedding venue!
At the end of our little chat, I put it to Char + Dan to share their absolute gems of advice!
Char: Just do lots of research, I’d say. When I started planning ours, for me, I knew that I wanted to take time to find the perfect dress so for me it was kind of as soon as we had a venue because I’d been watching all these Say Yes to the Dress and things like that, then the next step was to find a dress. So that was kind of my next step and just do it one thing at a time.
Take your time to find what you want – such great advice!
C: The initial thing I did was I made a list and literally wrote everything including buying gifts getting my engagement ring cleaned and things like that so that I knew from the very start a whole list of things that I needed to do and then I’ll just work my way through that list, but never tell the groom before price of things!
Danny: I was going to say, I think my role in this was to create a spreadsheet and track where we were going and what we were doing but seriously I think it’s one of the things that’s taking your time. It’s so fast. We had a countdown in the kitchen didn’t we started off at 300 and something and we blink it was 20-something. We blinked. It was today you like oh, and then you look back at it, and it’s now six months ahead, and you think how is that possible? Where have six months gone, it’s incredible?
But yeah, I think my key piece of advice would be to just take your time and make sure that you’re absolutely convinced that the things you’ve got are the best for you.
C: Just enjoy the day as well because everybody said to us, enjoy the day it goes so fast, and you just don’t realise how quick it actually goes and even now when we talk about it. We said we kind of feel like we said our vows, we had a meal and then we blinked and everybody was going home. It was like ‘wow, where’s the rest of the night gone?’
D: We really did our best with it, everyone said to take a step back and watch your guests, and I did it several times, but even having the time to do that, it still just went and disappeared past. It was a shame it was so fast. You can see why some countries have two-day weddings.
Take a step back and take in your day at every chance!
C: Another piece of advice when you are choosing a photographer. You’ve got to think those pictures are going to stay with you forever, so make sure that it’s a style that you like and you get what you want because otherwise, it’s pointless really.
D: You’ve lost it.That’s it. You get one chance to do it right on the day, so pick wisely!
So the top advice from Char + Danny:
- Take your time – enjoy the planning and find exactly what you want. Do not rush it!
- Make a list! This helps you not get overwhelmed, and helps you keep control!
- Take the day in – it will fly by, so step back, breathe, and enjoy it.
- Choose wisely when finding your photographer – you only have one chance!
Such fabulous advice from Char + Danny and a great line to finish on – “You get one chance to do it right on the day, so pick wisely!”
How key and how true, and something I discussed a few days ago on the blog here.
