Engagement Photography Sessions
From having fun to capturing something beautiful, the question comes, where would you choose for your engagement portraits?
For a long time, I’ve included engagement sessions within my wedding photography packages for two primary reasons:
- It removes any nervousness or uncertainty about being photographed ahead of the wedding
- It builds a brilliant bond between me and my couples ahead of the wedding day, which makes the world of difference to how we are together, and indeed how the guests perceive me on the wedding day too.
There are of course other clear advantages of having an engagement session; you get a collection of great photographs to put on the wall or indeed use in your wedding decor, and you get to take time to de-stress and have fun together as a couple!
There are of course so many ideas and options you can bring to an engagement session from where you have the shoot, what you want to wear, and indeed whether to include the furry members of the family too!
For me, an engagement session is about capturing YOU, the best version of you both together…having fun, showing your character, and being REAL.
Involving the furry members of the family can be something else that creates great images, as often we can’t include them on the wedding day itself! And after all, who can resist having a bit of fun with pooches!
Where should you have your engagement session?
I often get asked, “where should we go for our engagement session?”, and the choice really is up to you!
I’ve had couples go back to where they met, explore some old favourite locations, and indeed stay close to home making the most of the beautiful surroundings they have around them!
Urban, Rural, Picturesque or Full of Character…the choice is yours!
One big thing to realise is where you go doesn’t necessarily matter…it’s how it connects to you and your story, and what feels comfortable, or indeed special!
Sarah and Craig wanted something seriously special for their engagement session a couple of years ago, with an incredible shoot around Cosford Air Museum.
For Yvonne and Elliot, we mixed things up and went to one of my favourite urban spots for portraits, Digbeth in Birmingham.
Utilising Your Wedding Venue for you Engagement Portraits
There is always the option of utilising your wedding venue for your engagement shoot, but I will only encourage this for two reasons:
- We’re able to shoot at a completely different time of year giving a unique and different look to your wedding photos
- We’re able to explore somewhere different around your venue, maybe that time will be a barrier on the wedding day.
Countryside Engagement Photographs
Heading out into a beautiful countryside setting – even if it’s only a stone’s throw from a city centre – can add a really stunning look to your portraits, and often allows us to escape from the world and focus just on you!
Whether it’s utilising settings such as Sutton Park:
Relaxed Engagement Photography
One thing that matters above all else – clothing, location, time of year, even the weather – is you. The connection between you, and letting that shine through!
It’s about having fun, being yourselves, and letting me capture those little moments of magic.
